Does anyone know of a good post on ausfish re reading a sounder properly.

If you do a search there is some really good pics with interpretations of what is being seen

Mate there used to be a book on the subject by lowrance , it was the best book i have seen on the subject, it will clear everything up for you. Search around for it, i think it was called "Lowrance book of sonar and gps" .

as JB says the lowrance book is very good and for $20.00 dollars money well spent
