Second hand? What engine is on it as the 520 is fairly limited as far as engine weight is concerned, effectively limits one to low end 4S but 2S weight gets reasonable HP.

One negative - WET

Cheers, Kerry.

thanks kerry
i havent selected a particular model yet
what is the biggest 4s you can put on a 520, and does it give it enough grunt for my application
i am happy with the wet bit

Rob, If it's second hand then you better check the plate as they wasn't a lot of room to move as the max outoard weight was the limiting factor.

What ever they have done to rasie the current spec, not sure but would be interesting to find out.

Also interesting that the 520/580/670 all have the same max outboard weight?

Cheers, Kerry.

Rob, ive had a bit of experience with that hull and in my apinion its very limited in power options. It doesnt like much wieght on the back and id go no heavier then a 60efi 4 stroke yammy. If you wont more power then that your limited to the lighter 2 strokes. There ability in offshore conditions is good, but as stated there a wet boat. The sides are low and there very unstable at rest and side on to a sea, this takes some getting used to! They serve a purpose but a family run about wouldnt be one of them. There more a pro trout boat then a family boat mate...foxy

as for long boats I think there are better ones out there than southwinds. I have a long boat 5mtr 3 people fishing is no trouble. they do handle very well. I have found mine no where as wet as some other center consoles all open boats will be abit wet. I have a 60hp 2/s 100km trip uses between 40-55l of fuel and cruise on 50kph max is 65kph. I have not found mine to be that unstable alot better than the 4.55 poly I had before and dryer. as said they are not a family boat but do make a good fishing workhorse.

I have a 520 and can't praise it enought. As far as wet is concerned, I challenge anyone to show me a 5 meter centre console that is dry...

Engine wise a friend of mine has a yammie 80 4s on the back of his 520, and I have an ETEC 75. The ETEC 90 weighs the same as the 75 (138kgs) and should move it along fine. I get 32 knots WOT from my 75... Good enough for me..

Plenty of room as well, and I have a casting deck fitted as well
