View Full Version : Poly or Cruise Craft ?
Hi
was going to get a 4.55m Centre console, 50 Suzuki 4st, brand new with all the options for $17500 but now a 4.75m Cruise Craft Regal (cuddy cabin) 2001 model with a Mercury 60 2st has come up. #I am now confused ! #
I will mainly be doing river work with my wife and 2 kids but some times go out the front or out to the reef.
The Cruise Craft is in "as new" condition the bloke swears and the motor has only 110hrs on it. #Comes with sounder, full length bimini and a few more trimmings.
I would like the new poly but the cuddy cabin would be great for the kids and it would handle the rougher outside conditions better I think ?
Thanks for any opinions ......
Forgot to tell you the Cruise Craft is $18500 and it look exactly the same as the new one at this link.

If I was buying, I would go for the glass boat for a couple of reasons ( and they are my reasons ;))
Wear and tear on the hull up and down the banks/ramps ect (polly is quite soft)
IMO the resale will be better on the fiberglass boat
Polly's are new and it scares me to see 5.99m polly's in the trading post with less that 30hrs on them under private sales ( and it was more than 1)
I don't know anyone with a polly boat that has done 1000hrs in it to see how the last
please remember these are my opinions that I have formed!

The poly is soft, but the impact resistance is better than fibreglass. And I would rather run my poly up on a ramp than a glass boat.
I don't read the trading post, but must agree that to see the 5.99's for sale so soon after release could be a bit off putting, but you don't know the reasons for the sale, they may have genuine reasons, and with less than 30 hrs, have they really been tried/tested/appreciated by there owners.
But this is off track, which one to buy ??
If most use is going to be up the creeks/rivers I would say the Poly but you have to decide what you want it for and where it will be used mainly

Poly boats arent exactly new as the have been made in the USA for quite a while and in large sizes too. I wouldnt worry about depreciation too much given that a poly boat package is about 25 % cheaper than an equivalent fiberglass package (and a lot of alloy ones as well). Also fiberglass boats do depreciate a lot during the first few years.
I don't know if you can read anything into a few 5.99s being up for sale. Presumably people would have taken them for a test drive before buying. They are probably up for sale due to financial stress. A far as I know most owner are happy with their poly's.
Therefore I would just go for the boat that suits you needs best and is the best value. As you said the Cruise Craft has a more family friendly layout and is a bit larger. However it doesnt look cheap compared to the poly and with the poly you are getting a brand new boat and a 4 stroke motor.
Hi
Just drove 1300km round trip and bought the Cruise Craft. It was as good as new and ran very well. Better for the family but will want a 4stroke one day.
Thanks for the replies people !!!

Rumy, I don't think that you will regret your decision. It was a tough choice and either would be a good boat dependant upon your usage. But personally after making the decision a couple of years ago to buy and older cruise craft (Reefraider 166) over a poly that I was looking at also some bigger tin cans, I can only say GOTTA LOVE THEM CRUISE CRAFT!!!!!!!!! #A beaut boat in all conditions if driven to suit the conditions and very fasmily friendly for a fishing boat.

Agreed! Cant go wrong with a CruiseCraft. Own a poly now and its fantastic, but previous boat was CC Reefinder. Just to big for our fishing needs and for one person too hard too handle at the ramp. Truly magnificent boat it was and I bet the new owner thinks so too.
