I will be looking at purchasing a fibreglass boat around the 6 metre range (40k-50k) in the next few months. Obviously with the price of boats at present , I'll still be in the 2nd hand market. I have spent a fair amount of time offshore in a mates cruise craft 625 outsider, of which I'm pretty impressed with :-but this will still be out of my price range. Are there any other Boats in this price range that other members can recommend? I have seen a 2001 signature 630f with foam fill and self draining decks for better money but how is the ride compared with the cruise craft? I have also noticed not all signatures seem to have these features??Options?? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that the 6m Seafarers built in the late ninety's don't have either foam fill nor self draining decks. Price will be the big issue here but the more investigating I do, the more confusing this choice becomes. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if they still make them but I had a Swiftcraft with the clinker hull. Best trailer boat I've ever been in. They were known as Viking and then Dominator.

Take a look at signature 600RF. Can just squeeze it under 50k with 140 4st and min extras (lots of extras are standard though).

If i had the cash its the boat for me layout wize though admit havent been in that particular hull offshore. Have been in smaller versions that went very well though.

hydrofield 5.6

Thanks for you replies fellas-As I thought there are many variables in the choice you make here-I have actually spoken to three hydrofield 5.6 owners and they have nothing but praise for these hulls(hard to find-only 1 avail for sale in a.c.t at present.) Does anyone on this list own a late model 6 meter signature because I'm keen to know from people on this broad list how they handle. Quite a few people I have chatted to reckon the only haines to own is the old 17c,19c and 23 formula models. Some of these people have been in the later models and swear they have nothing on the old models(mainly because of the weight reduction) I would prefer something more late model with possibly a four stroke so it seems 2nd hand might be the only option in the $40-50K price range.

I agree the hydrofield is very hard to beat in that size range but also hard to find....., also seafarer victories are great but they might be expensive these days.

Hey,

I agree the signatures arent as good today. I owned a 575F and wasnt all that impressed.

Add Southwind SF20 to that list as it ate my signature in every way. Also add Seafarer Victory - Great Boat.

Do a search on the for sale section here. Theres a Formula with late model 4 stroke somewhere for around that money. Good buy in my eyes.

Darren

Hey,
Owned a Hydrofield 5.6 too, but different boat altogether than all the others.
Depends on what you want to do with it.

Well, I'm really surprised that there is no mention of the Cruise Craft! This is one of Qld's most popular boats with a reputation for fantastic sea hanlding. The opinions, naturally enough, are very subjective unless you have had 2 or 3 boats. I have a Cruise Craft and I have powered past various Haines on the trip across Moreton Bay in crappy weather.

I have a 2003 model Signature 600F fitted with a 175 optimax optioned to the max ie. trim tabs, navman 6600 sounder plotter set up competely for offshore work. Certainly when we bought the we where extremely happy not having owned a boat that big previously but over the years we have found things that we would change in the next time around. I don't believe the Signatures are what they use to be in quality but this is reflected in the price! The ride offshore is as good as any mono hull design but the variable dead rise hull does get on plane alot faster. My next boat wil be a Seafairer or Crusie Craft mainly cause these are purpose built offshore fishing boats where as at the moment we do use the 600 for water skiing, this is where the trim tabs come into play! Either way everyone will throw in there 2 bob but you need to throw your hat in the ring because you only truly find your perfect boat with first hand experience and owning them! Thats the expensive part! Good luck!
