Having lost another reef anchor on Sat night I will be in the market for another. What is everyone using?
I was thinking about trying one of the newer style anchors with the blades perpendicular to the shaft? not sure what they are called.

i have a normal reef pick but i hate it as it is not quite strong enoght so i want to swap to a molabah pick (spelling)
think that is the one your thinking off with fixed blades off the shaft like a pick but the conetion point at the tip and you cable tie your chain down along the shaft so when it gets stuck they break and you drag the pick up backwards ;D

The SARCA is a bit expensive and probably just as easy to lose as a $20 reef pick ???
Steven have you ever had any problems retreiving it?

Brooksy,

No mate, none at all. Come back over the unit and the D shackle slids up the anchor. Pull in, all done. Exceptional over reef, sand mud the whole lot. Yes they are expensive, had my doubts and was hard to justify but glad that I did. The main reason I purshased one was that I was sick of haveing two anchors on board, swapping, storing etc. Saw a demo of them at the boat show and the put it up against 3 other anchors on a pivot behind a tractor. The other three units together couldnt keep up to the SARCA. I have noticed a big difference in sand as well in strong currents, it gets in and holds.

Cheers Steven

150 bucks! , Dam that crazy. Sorry but to pay that much on something that could easily be cut off by a hard running spainard on 30pd braid is too risky for me. I picked up a 5 prong reef from trawler supplies for 14 bucks! Now thats a good price.

You have gotta be kidding $150 bucks. Go the el cheapo reefy. Just add to it a bit. Run extra chain I run at least 4 metres. Next cut the prongs to aboout half length. ( long prongs are hard to store in the boat, make the hold weaker and don't really change the holding pattern much in my experience)Get prongs that your boat can straighten with difficulty under 50% throttle and without sinking you. If you get snagged let out quite a lot of rope and drive forward over it, then to one side then other near 90degrees from straight over. Touch wood in 30 yrs fishing , never lost an anchor. and if you do you won't be much poorer
