HEY :

NOW THAT THE NEW TOY IS NEARLY HERE, I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME ADVICE ON PREVENTATIVE MAINTANANCE.
DO THEY HAVE ANY PROBS LIKE REED VALVES STICKING OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT ?
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE ARE ANY FUEL ADDATIVES THAT WORK WELL IN THE LUBRICATION PROCESS "UPART FROM THE NORMAL OIL/FUEL MIX.

(DO THESE YAMMY MOTORS HAVE ANY QUERKS THAT CAN BE AVOIDED WITH SIMPLE SOLUTIONS)

UPON RETURNING FROM A DAY OR TWO ON THE WATER ONE SHOULD WASH FRESH WATER THROUGH MOTOR & ?
(? WASH A MIXTURE OF WATER SOLUABLE OIL AND WATER THROUGH MOTOR?)
THE LITTLE TRICKS YOU HAVE PICKED UP ALONG THE WAY WILL BE A GOOD

CHEERS

Hi Brad,

Love the rig.

The V6 Yammies of the late 90's went through some major issues that needed powerhead rebuilds. Im sure the probs were fixed by 2000, so you shouldnt have any issues.

I know of a commercial company that went through about six powerheads in twelve months on a 1998 200hp V6. Yamaha stood by them though and eventually fixed the problem.

I have owned engines similar to yours and just routinely flush them and clean down the block and cover in inox after every use. Ive never had any issues.

Best of luck, and enjoy the boating world.

Regards

Darren

Hi Brad,
I wouldn't be putting anything through the Yammie but a fresh water flush after a day on the water. ::) ::) ::) Send Webby a PM & I am sure he will tell you about his adventures. :-X :-X :-X
