Only a couple more weeks ??? and the new boat should be ready ;D ;D ;D. The first mould is cast now they are gonna cut it in half and down the chimes to lengthen an widen it. The pics go from top left-clockwise.

A Spearfish (builder of bullet boats). It's gonna be around 17' + pod length. He's using me as a guinea pig as they are using the 15' to make a 17' boat for the 1st time. Should ??? be ready 20th? this month ;D.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A 175hp COME OFF A BOAT DOING 4000RPM? DO NOT USE THAT POD CONFIGURATION NO MATTER WHAT THEY TELL YOU...I HAD MY (brand new POD and Motor $14000 WORTH)175HP BREAK OFF HALF WAY ACCROSS THE BAY IN 5 KNOT WINDS. The only people who are happy with fibreglass Pods are guys who only fish in smooth water. Wife has not been in the boat since...did I mention my 4 month old son was onboard also!
PM me if you want more information or photos on the pitfalls of this configuration...and how the job should be done..trust me I have learnt a very expensive and scary lesson!
IF YOU PROCEED MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A PAIR OF BOLT CUTTERS...FOR THE STEERING CABLE...TRUST ME I WISH I HAD A PAIR WHEN ENGINE WAS HANGING FROM IT AND WE WERE TAKING ON WATER.
Sorry to be so harsh but it scared the crap out of me!
good luck
Dave

Dave, scary stuff :o. Rons pretty confident in it all as its a 90 2stroke going on the back and he is gonna guarantee it all for 7 years. I don't mind the pod setup as it allows a very high rear transom, more deck room and added rear boyancy BUT I am keen on your email and pics to get more info and take them to Ron to see why it's NOT :-/ gonna happen to me. The boat is just a smaller version of the spearfish Peter Pakula used to ride. Ron is the builder of Bullet boats (his fastest model is in aust maritime museum) so HOPEFULLY he's already aware of potential problems as it's being put together next week :-/.

Pod bonuses
The test boat was basically a standard production-line model set up with a 175 HP Saltwater Mercury EFI with an extra-long (25”) shaft. The propeller was a 48 x 19” pitch. This set-up will give an estimated consumption rate of around 37 litres of fuel an hour. The engine is mounted on a pod that runs flush with the keel and, being fully floating, supports the engine weight with no noticeable rear droop. Another bonus of the pod is that it increases the running surface of the hull, so small engines can still give passable performance.

48x19 prop.
That merc would have its arse hanging out swinging that one Jay. LOL

Based on the amount of Pm's I was sent regarding my misfortune I will post the photo's so everyone can see them. Jay the engine I broke off was a 175Hp EFI merc (03) swingin a 17 inch prop. I originally had a 470 mercruiser inboard and the boat is a V19C Haines Hunter. The cruisecraft pod is more like a hull extension than a pod because it follows the same plane as the bottom of the boat, this is what you should get. When you ask your boat builder to show you exactly where the pod will be positioned I am sure you will notice the "step" this is where the problem is. Please note it will take me a few days to post the photo's as I have to track them down and get the wife to teach me how to post them.
Cheers

Dave, I think Jay mentioned in one of his replys that the pod they are putting on is a flush with keel one with full floatation.

Phewy I am surpprised that they can do that using the pod mould displayed. The way I see it, the photo has the 90 degeree mounting plate going all the way around the pod (where the bolts go through the transom)...how would you connect the bottom of the pod to the boat?

Your right Dave and your advice is appreciated. I'll see what Ron's reply is and see me options ;).
