Recently on a council clean up on the side of the road there was an old boat motor by the name of a riptide. My dad and I picked it up took it home and fixed it up (works now). They are very old and one of the first european motors ever used. Just wondering if anybody had herd of these or had one.

She looks very much like the trusty old Seagull. Were a common sight back in the Sixties and early seventies.

Cool project!! It also looks to be a crossflow, never heard of one before, one thing for sure the aluminium will stand up to our marine environment not like the deliberate aluminium aspro formulations in todays engines. nq

Yes, but not air cooled I dont think.
Doesn't go to badly but after a while it shorts out.
Still cleaning, fixing etc.

Looks water cooled to me.
Make sure you have water running through it when you run it or the new toy won't last long.
I seen one before many years ago and it had a crook coil that made it conk out like you describe.
I remember we retrofitted a coil from a victa mower and got it working again.
