Noisy 30hp Merc

My 30 hp merc is just too noisy for me ! If I put one of those covers over the top will it quiten it done ? or should I get ear plugs.

I have a 50hp force motor and its the same thing noisy as hell Wish I had the money for a four banger lol
Will just have to put up with it for now or as soon as I get it going again.
