i am in the process of getting built a new 625 cruise craft outsider.
i decided on the 175 yamaha 2 stroke because of the price.
at a very big pinch i might be able to get the 175 hpdi.
value peoples opinions
thanks

If you want long range I would look at 4 stroke.

I would go for the HPDI or a 4 stroke/Etec. Anything that uses less fuel really. :o

Hi Troy.
Great to hear that your going for the Outsider 625.As your probably aware I have the Explorer 625,same hull as the Outsider, great boats.
As to your question,I had the same problem.I first ordered the 175 2 stroke carby Yamaha, but after talking to people about the HPDI and how better it was I decided to go for the HPDI (spoke to the local Yamaha dealer mechanic down here in Geelong). So glad I made that decision before it was too late. The motor even surpases my expectations, great economy, quiet running,no smoke, easy starting, I could go on.Couldn't afford at the time but scraped the bank and glad I did.
Anyway Troy if you use the boat a lot over the next years as I'm sure you will,it will eventually pay for itself by the fuel savings as well as the resale value will be greater.
I also bit the bullit and went for the Hydraulic stearing as well,a must in my books.

Anyway Troy hope this helps, enjoy the boat,I'm sure you will.
Cheers Ron. ;)

175HPDI All the way my friend you won't regret it, carby's are thirsty mummas! I had a 150EFI Merc then upgraded to a 175optimax and the difference is awesome! Don't make my mistake go the extra mile you will regret it if you don't!

In the latest F&B mag there is a press release about the pricing of HPDI motors coming down. If this is the case definatly go the HPDI. ;D ;D

maccaroon
they have quoted me 3000 extra for the hpdi.
does this sound write to you and also if you do not mind telling me what does the hydraulic sterring set you back.also when i went for the test drive when we were pulling up he let go of the wheel and the boat kept its track ,is this the hydraulic steering that helps the boat do this or is he talking about something different.

the $3000 extra is about right i just done alot of homework on motors and prices.
hydraulic steering wont let the motor turn unless you turn ther steering wheel as the pump is in the helm and the lines are pressurised so the ram cant turn

I would pay the extra 3000 any day!!!!the differance is that great. Also look at the 200 hpdi i know bill corten use to have a 175hpdi on his 625 but change up to the 200 for a little more herbs and loves it.

you should get a very quite motor so as to not wake up the neighbours when you roar into upstart, not good to wake up the neighbours you know they might get the EPA onto you for disturbing the peace!
you need help quickly maxw have you just got out.i think you need to go back in.[is it maxw]

If you plan to do plenty of offshore work, I would definitely go the HPDI or 4 stk over carby 2 stk........will give you the range/economy. I did a trip to Shallow tempest from Scarborough last week end (575 Explorer running a 115 2tsk yammy)..........definitely puts a dent in the 160 L tank!!! If you can find the extra $3K, would recommend you spend it.

you cannot read anyone elses post so you would really struggle to put one up yourself.

Finding Time said " Also look at the 200 hpdi i know bill corten use to have a 175hpdi on his 625 but change up to the 200 for a little more herbs and loves it."

I did the bar crossing course with Bill Corten about three weeks ago and he said that he would go back to the 175hp next time as his previous 175hp had plenty of power for the boat and the difference in fuel consumption was a worthwhile saving.

I was very impressed with his 200HP HPDI Yammie though. Much quieter than my mate's 220hp Evinrude FICHT. No smell. Great motor. (I have a fourstroke Merc mainly for the quietness and fuel economy but definitely would consider the Yammie HPDI if I ever went to that size of boat and motor after being out in Bill's boat all day and experiencing the difference.)

Just ask BAYCRUISER. If I did his trip in my 575 outsider with 135 optimax I would expect to use around 60 litres at most from my 160 tank

definitely go a HDPI or fuel/oil injected motor. NO CARBYS.

A friend of mine is thinking about getting a Johnson 150 on the back of his 625. How would this motor sit with the boat?

Angla, on re-filling the tank the other day, the shallow Tempest trip was for 100 L's on the button.........60 L's sounds a whole lot better!.......definitely go the HPDI or 4 stk.

I think Bill must be getting old, he used to like the extra herbs.
