Haines 580 & 115 4 St - OK for bar work?

I guess you could probably prop it to jump when asked but you may sacrifice some cruise and top speed. If it is an easy option the 130 might be the better choice on a boat that weight. nq

i would think it would be fine for bar work however as NQ said if you have the option got a 130 or 140
140 would be the better with the suziki140 being as light as the 115hp ;)

G'day. I personally would think that the 115 4 stroke would be on the smallish side for this boat. Being a Haines which are normally pretty narrow and have a reasonably deep v (? 22 degrees) would perform better with a 130 or 140. And when you talk about bar work you need plenty of oomph when you hit the throttle you do not want to be hanging around getting out of the hole.
I have a 115 4 stroke Johnson on a Reef Finder, which is 20 degrees and a little wider than a Haines, also about 100 kgs lighter. For this boat I would not go any smaller in hp, especially if I was doing a lot of bar work.
I would have liked to have gone for the 140 4 stroke Johnno, but could not find the extra $2000.
Anyway I do not cross the bar very often so this was not of major concern to me.
I am very happy with my choice.
