I have a 2004 Brooker 4.1 tinny with 30hp Yammie. After owning the boat since new for 18 months I have become more addicted to fishing than ever, and plan to upgrade to a ~5m runabout in the near future.

The reason i am asking this is because my son is hell bent on buying a 16 Haines and i am worried about the age of the boat and what hidden costs he could be up for.
I am not knocking the Haines as any make of boat that age having not knowing it's history i would be concerned.

Troy I have a 20yr old V16R Haines 16ft. It is in great shape and has not cost me a cent in repairs to the hull at all. It will all depend on how well it has been cared for over the years.
Cheers Kev.

Troy,

Gotta agree with Kev, I just recently sold my older Haines V17R, was a '85 model hull matched with a '95 Yammie. As with kev my 'ol girl didn't cost me a cent and I had this boat for over 6 years. The only money I spent was for service's for the Yammie and a bit of R & M for the trailer.

Just hope my new southwind performs as well over the years.

Cheers,
Tony 8-)

Totally agree with Tony & Kev...with regards to probs down the track..some of the time the age & brand of a second hand boat means nothing... obviously the older the boat the more chance of "rot" etc but it all boils down to how the boat has been looked after.

I should add that I looked at about 6 V16R's before I found one that fitted the bill and I paid good money for it.
The others were either overpriced or just plain R O O T E D due only to neglect, it was interesting that all boats SOLD.
