Chopper if it is still under warrenty hope they are treating you well. If it continues get ready for the "you must be abusing it somehow" line of trying to get you to go away. Think they went to court over the opti problems and lost or settled to keep it all fairly quiet.
Best of luck fnq

I had a 175 opti also and had vibration and excessive noise problems between 3000- 3400rpm. Although not the same problem I took my problem to their product support tech. We tried different props and sound deadening inside hull and after 6 months of R&D, I wrote to mercury australia with Db readings at the helm and a full report of what I had done in defence of my purchase and to their credit I was given two options. My money back or swap the 2.5l V6 for a 200hp 3.0l V6. I took the 200hp and have never looked back. Motor has been faultless and most impressive on fuel. My advice if you are having no such luck towards fixing your problem, then document everything, phone conversations etc. Our money is hard earnt and we expect to get our monies worth. Stay cool and they will sort this problem out, hopefully,unfortunately my experience didnt go without fustration also. Good luck
i have 103 hr on my 175 opi in 8 months and has not missed a beat
Bob - i guess that means you only have 17 hours left on them ;D
Only joking ! ;) ::)

I know of another Poptimax that has had one powerhead replaced already sub 100 hours and it has problems already on the second one after a few hours. First one overheated a few times without any alarms or engine management shutdown things working and when she blew it put a hole in the block about 1/2 the size of your fist.

YET!!!!
There are just to many bad tales out there for them all to be wrong :o
ditto finding time.
I've got a 135 opti which is a bit of a 'special needs' student. Coming from a honda to this headache I echo evry1s sentiments. Problem is I don't want to blow a motza on a 140 zuk. Anyone want 135 opti? Going cheap about $17k needed ha ha.

Thanks guys, your destroying my "Re-sale" !!! ::) :)
For the record, My 2004 115 Opti has over 300hrs in 18 months and has not missed a beat.
Maybe it's just the 175's & 135's that have had the odd hick-up ::)
Craigie.

Sorry to hear your misfortune.
Remember the old Blackmax,they were supposed to be the Antz Pantz,well that's the last Merc i owned.
Go with the Japanese Technology,can't beat em.
Jack
Yes I agree on the Black Max. Merc these days will have more trouble sweeping problems under the carpet because of the internet, but I can't still bring myself to trust them even after 25 years.
would put another motor on now if i could come up with the $$$$$$$$
all donations gladly received ;)
power head is going on toworrow
have no problems with the dealer they have just gottin stuck into fixxing
it and getting me back on the water.
they have been good seeing that they had to cop all of the shit that comes
with a pissed off customer .
not happy with mercury they dont want to talk to customers they just
leave it to the dealer .
bob
Its fortunate it happened in the warrantee period bob, at least youll have a working engine again, if it had happened just outside the warrantee period then you,d have some headaches!
Will they guarantee it wont happen again? :-[ ...foxy

I have heard too many 175 Opti stories to re-count here.
Latest being ( unfortunately ) the Quarantine Boat in Torres Straight that broke down, and now has people missing.
Can a Lepoard change his spots ?
