Got a hummingbird wide 100 works fine show all the bottom but the only trouble is doesnt show fish.
Why?
Now I know that there were fish there as I caught some and was getting bites and also I had the fish id feature turned on in the unit.
Do I have to zoom in when getting a certin depth?

Dont know much about Hummingbird Sounder but I would turn the fish id off for a start - its a waste of time and processor power. You need to play with the settings in manual mode. Adjust the sensitvity right up and then back down till the screen clears. You could then try and set your upper and lower limits if bottom bashing to read the bottom in more detail.

The wide 100 has a fish size selector in the fish alarm turner on and offer (page 41 of the manual). Play with that.

G'day Mark,in that depth you may not have enough vertical pixels,I used to own a wide veiw or vision and it had 160 vertical pixels,in 50m (165 ft) each pixel covers a fraction over a foot of the water column so if targets are not atleast a foot from top to bottom they wont show. You can overcome this if your unit can open up a portion of the water column,in a lowrance it is called setting the upper and lower limits, humminbird would have something similar under a different term, set the unit to show only say the bottom 10m and all of the pixels are then dedicated to that area,so the fish that had to be a foot deep before to colour one pixel will now colour up to 5 pixels,by doing this you should see a lot more pan size fish. Also get rid of the symbols, look at raw sonar returns and in time you will get to know what is what by the shape of the"clouds" and where they are holding in relation to the reef.Another tip, screw up the gain/sensitivity,you don't want a nice clear screen aim for a happy medium that gives you an acceptable amount of clutter but still lets you pick the shows holding on the reef.

gday mark, i once fished with a bloke
who had one of those sounders. by memory
he used to just run it on full zoom. i dont think
it had a gain function on it. used to fish 60m no trouble
with it. i think he left the fish symbol on as well. it was
pretty accurate by memory.
could be a different model but i think it would be similar......
hopes this helps.

Zoom it in Mark.
You will be looking mainly for bottom structure and formations.
In deeper water it will show as a jump up to shallower water. Then zoom in.
It will show as a speckled patch like snow when there is fish.
Otherwise just find the structure and have a fish.
The pixel count is not high and does not have power to burn so the definition of whats down there is hard to depict.
Every fisho always wants to upgrade to a better sounder and I am one of them, but we all start somewhere and are governed by dollars.
Hope this helps you catch some cheers Kev. ;)

Yeah, what they said.
Full sensitivity is probably what you're after, no fish picks, zoom on the bottom third of where you're fishing.
Read the sounder pages on this site.
