G'Day GTH,

good choice, Haines V17's be them R,L or C are a legendary hull and you won't be disappointed. A few of the guys here have the V17L's which is a LowProfile cabin version, I'm sure they'll help out with more info. 130 would be ok, hulls are rated to 150 and most run with 115's which still provide enough power for offshore work.

Age could be anywhere from the mid 70's to late 80's.

cheers,
Tony # 8-)

GDay Hitman and welcome aboard.

I had a Haines 16c and it was a 1980 hull. But as Skippa says there were very little if any changes on the hull shape and desing for nearly ten years through the 70's and 80's.

I think the motor will be fine - I had an older style 130hp and it fine. Because of their depper V hull they probably need an extra few herbs than a lot of other boats.

G/day, I have owned a V17L with a Johno 140hp for 20 years and still love it, I have no intentions of getting rid of it, as a matter of fact I agonised for several months wether to repower it or rebuild the orignal 1984 motor. I decided on a rebuild $2.5K better than $13k for replacement and it goes just as good as the day I got it. The best $700 I spent was investing in a Hydrive Hydraulic steering kit, fantastic no feedback and magic handling.
I have been out to the shelf of Sydney after Tuna and Bills, and recently fished and dived around North Solitary Island 22N/miles N/E of Arrawarra just north of Woolgoolga, in July I spent a week at South West Rocks and according to the GPS did 97klms in 1 day.

I have never been worried or felt unsafe at any stage and I have been in some horrible conditions.
I think you will be happy with your V17

I have a 120lt underfloor and on the big trips I have a 70lt S/S cruise tank that fits in the rear well,
but you have to play it safe with the extra weight, will run the small tank dry first. I have fitted a CAV filter with dual inlets and Tap so its easy to switch over tanks.

If you dont mind me asking .... what did it cost you ? I am looking for a bout at the moment and on a budget up to $15000 I have been checking out boatpoint and the trading post like a kid waiting for christmas. I like the look of the V17L and there seems to be some positive remarks.

If anyone knows of a good one from taree to brissy can you please let me know.

my email is pedro_1@kooee.com.au

Thanks

Thats pretty good buying from what I have seen around.

Saw 1 roughy for $13,500 and the rest are around the $16,000 mark.

I have the cash now so I can get serious

I might head up the coast later in the week and have a look around. I am chomping at the bit after a weekend at Illuka. We has a ball fishing the wall. There was a few Jew about and that always puts a smile on my face. My son got his first one Friday night and I got 2 last night.
