1NM = 1.852km
1Kn = 1.852km/h
A knot is a term used to describe a unit of measure, this is the equivilent of what the metric system has such as 1km is to 1km/h
A knot &nautical mile are greater to a mile and mph because they allow for the curvature of the earth's surface.

For those navigation buffs:
Nautical Mile: 60 nautical miles is equal to 1 degree of lattitude, therefore 1nm is equal to 1 minute or arc (60 mins, 1 degree). Due to the uneven shape of the earth, the exact length may vary (at the north & south poles, 1nm = 1862m, at the equator 1nm = 1843m). The average is therefore taken as 1852 metres or 6080 feet. Modern navigation equipment measure the nautical mile in relation to coordinates, and thus factor these bits (of useless info to most) in.
Statute Mile: This has an arbitary measurement of 5280 feet (can't be bothered working out how many metres, but it is a lot shorter than a nautical mile).
Kilometre: this is 1/10000th of the distance from the equator to the poles and measures 3280 feet.
More useless info for people to attempt to explain after 15 beers at the next party.

it just seemed to me that most people found Dickos explanation easier to follow,
I know I have found that easier in the past to work out off the cuff when Im out there,
Its been worked out now so lets not be heros eh,
Alls good..
