G'day Hoga.....

Do you dis-connect the fuel line from the outboard
when not in use?

With some of the VRO models, as the fuel slowly drains
back into the tank, it siphons a bit of oil with it #into
the the fuel line back towards the tank, so when you
next start up, it gets a glut of oil that usually takes a few
minutes to burn off...

Replacing the vro valve set up is not a cheap option,
but dis-connecting the fuel line from the outboard after
flushing after a trip should stop this from happening..

Try it..

Harry..

ONE MECANIC THIKS IT IS THE HOT WEATHER EVAPORATING THE FUEL BUT HAVE NEVER HAVE HAD THIS PROB IN THE TEN YEARS I HAVE HAD THIS MOTER HOGA

G'day again, Hoga.

That is possible, the fuel left in the fuel bowl of the
carby can evaporate, leaving a oily residue, assuming
you don't drain the carbs after flushing, if its going to
sit for more than 4 weeks or so...

But, as you say this if this has just started happening,
the VRO valve can develop a fault that it doesn't shut
off properly when the engines not running.

I think that the valve can't be purchased as a seperate
item, and is replaced as a complete VRO unit.

If it is a faulty valve, disconnecting the fuel line will
stop the oil from being siphoned back into the fuel line,
and will limit the smoky start-ups...

This will cost you nothing to try, so its worthwhile
having a go, to rule it out..

good luck.. Harry.
