Hi guys, I have had some positive dealings with TABS!
The last few months the I have been noticing a few fuel fumes under the floor in my boat after I fill the tank. I pulled the floor boards up a while ago and found that the fuel was sweating out the gasket under the fuel level sender.
I rang TABS before Christmas and informed them about the problem and to my suprise I was told to bring the boat in come new year. So I dropped the boat off early yesterday morning and I was told they would call me in the afternoon when it was ready. About 3pm I had receive no call(I wasn't worried about this as half the workers were stil on holidays), so I made the call and asked how it was going.
And bugger me, I was told that along with fixing the tank they were replacing some of the hatches, touching up the paint and fixing some of the wiring so it wasn't going to be ready till lunch time today :o At this point I had some bad thoughts, something along the lines of "these pricks have taken my boat out fishing somewhere"!
Anyway I called them up today about lunch time and was told its all ready to be picked up. Sweet!
Drove down there this afternoon and man, I was totally shocked. They replaced a front and the rear hatch cause they were a little curled up on a corner which I didn't care about or even mention, they also touched up some scratches along the sides(damm crab pots), they resprayed the back where some bubbles were appearing(bad wiring job from engine fitter), and they resprayed a front section where some bubbles were showing(caused by me fitting stainless drain hole cover [smiley=embarassed.gif]).
They also very neatly fixed up the wiring that was causing some leakage into the hull.
And alll for nothing! Free! Zip! Nada! I did not hand over one cent!
What more could you ask for??
Needless to say I am very happy with TABS! I'm happy I own one :)

Hi Shane
What size TABS do you have?
I agree with your comments
I have a 6m Oceon Series purchased Dec 04. It is pushed by a Merc 135 Optimax.
I had some scratches from new when the dealer tried to pull the boat onto a wrong fitting trailer. Not his fault. The trailer was changed to a better one at no cost to me. The boat was then sent to TABS when it went for its first service and came back all painted and a new piece of floor (i didnt even ask for it)
Great service and great boat. I love the stability of the 2.5m width.
Cheers Noel

Great to here Shane,I have placed an order for a 5.35 C/C terriotory pro with 140hp 4/s Johnson motor. I had a test in a 4.55 side/c and it was great. The bigger boats have plenty of room in them.
By the way you have been treated it seams like they have there act together with customer service, hard to fault that .

Hi ShaneJ,
I have ordered a 5.7 m ocean series and mine is due end of Jan. I have looked at many alloy plate boats and I couldnt walk past this little baby. The finish is just outstanding and they handle like a dream. Had a test drive of the 5.3,5.7 and the 6m ocean series and finally decided on the 5.7 because the bunk is 6foot long. I have never had to wait for anything in my life and its killing me.
I havent spoken to anyone who doesnt like their tabs.
The beam is unreal and the freeboard is very comforting when outside.
Enjoy yours as I will and may you have tight lines.

Hi suttos
I had to wait a week for my 6m Oceon series as it was supposed to be the demo boat for the dealer (coorparoo marine)
That was to long so I know how you feel
The worst thing about fishing out of my tabs is the freeboard is so high I cant reach the water to wash my hands when I lean over the side
Bugger lol

Seems TABS are trumps!
How would the plate hull compare to the Ally Craft Tank hull - which is also plate?

I had to wait close to three months for mine to arrive :( So you guys have nothing to frown about ;)
Suttos, the beam is one feature that really got my eye, Just gives so much extra room :)

No idea mate.
Your best off comparing the specs! beam, bottom/side thickness etc. Then its best to get a good close up look off the two.
I spent over 12 months looking at all the plate boats I could find, and I found that the TABS just seemd to be designed by someone that actually uses boats. The layout is perfect, the hatches are the right size, storage space is great etc.
Also the construction is spot on. If you look at a TABS you'll notice that the alloy is not bent a great deal to form the shape of the boat. Bent alloy is something you dont want in what is meant to be a "strong plate boat"!
You'll also notice on the bottom the TABS they have a great big keel fitted right along the length of the boat. These boats are built like tanks!

Can't really offer an opinion on the differences between the Tank and Tabs.Try having a look at the web sites for each and go from there.I think the ally is a lighter contruction than Tabs. Allycraft have only just introduced their range of plate boats so a bit early to call. I was seriously looking at a ally plate but not enough info from them, so went for a Tabs after looking at other set ups.

Thanks Shane.
In your 12 month search for plate boats, did you check out the Ally Tank?
I checked the TABS web site and there seemed to be quite a few in my desired length (4.55m).
I would not know which one to focus on - and maybe you can help out..
I want to do alot of open bay work with chop most of time so I woudl be chasing a deepish Vee (deadrise) - thoughts?
ANy idea on ballpark cost of the 4.55m? (I know - I can check cost out tomorrow during business hours, but good to know now...)
Many thanks

Mate ally craft didnt have any plate boats when I was looking.
I have a 4.55 side console with a 60hp 4stroke yammy. I paid about 22k for the complete package, boat, motor, trailer, safty gear etc.

Did you blokes look at the Bar Crushers at all. If so what did you think?

I didn't because at the time they didn't have any open boats, or any boats <5m for that matter! Probably still dont :-?

No. I think the smallest is the 5.3M. I haven't been for a ride but thats the size I'm looking at in a cuddy Cab. They seem to have plenty of deadrise at 18 degrees but the bottom plate is only 4mm.
I believe the Fisher boats from Bribie are a heavier build.
The Bar crushers do have a folding windscreen and hardtop which is handy for getting under carports or garages.
Thanks for the help.

I looked at the bar crusher which was a bit more expensive than my TABS.
The TABS is 2.5m wide which doesn't seem much but I find it roomy and stable even if everyone is on the same side.
I still havent decided on the style of bimini to put on.

Wholey Dooley!!!!!
TABS being helpful? Shit they have got their act together then! Im on my second TABS now, I totally agree with all of the other TABS owners, Great boats. But the dealings I have had with them left A LOT to be desired. :-? :-?
I know of a few mates that had the same problems, had wrong boats built, stuffed around with delivery times etc.
Maybe they have woken up to themselves and realised how competetive the Australian Boat building market is at the moment. Great product but yeh enough said!
Sounds like they have turned the corner though:)
Happy boating all.

I wouldn't be to certain about TABS causing the stuff around. I know first hand some dealers that have as you said ordered the wrong boats/wrong setup and then blamed the factory.

Yeh I would be sure mate, as the boat dealership had enough as well and gave me their direct number. It was the worlds biggest F$%k around. In the end, the boat dealership were kind enough to give me a brand new loaner boat to ease the pain a little. They were as frustrated as I was. Anyway sounds like it aint happening any more, thats the main thing.
