I don't know about everyone else, but I am sh!t scared of getting a batch of ethanol fuel in my boat tank and not knowing it is there - and possibly wrecking my motor. I come back to Brisvegas 18 months ago from up north, and Rising Sun Marine in Townsville (Yammy specialists) told me they were having to deal with blown up new motors as the ethanol was being promoted pretty hard by the cane groweres up there as a 10% mix.

I read in the papers a while ago that the gov't wanted to make it law that fuel mixed with ethanol would not need marking at the bowser.

Hehehe
The ethanol will not direcly damage your engine in anyway. The problem with ethonal is that it will obsorb moisture and it cant eaisly be seperated.
So, if you get a batch of fuel with added ethonal you wont have any problems unless you leave the unused fuel in your tank between trips.

Thats the problem. If it is unmarked at the bowser, you don't know....

I'm like a lot of other blokes, I fuel up just before going out to boost the octane rating back up again.

Everyone has probably got a dirty batch of fuel with water in it before, and if you get that at the same time as a batch of ethanol fuel, the outcome isn't good.

Rising Sun Marine was having brand new motors coming in blown up and were attributing it to ethanol.

Well the the pumps are meant to be marked if the fuel has added ethonal or not, So I wouldnt stress too much.

At present the bowsers are supposed to be marked - but the Beattie Gov't wants to remove the mandatory requirement for marking of ethanol fuel, to try and get more consumption of ethanol by the general public.

There is the problem...

Ahh yes that is true, but I think for 5% based fuel only. 5% isn't enough to cause any moisture problems unless you leave the fuel sitting for extended periods of time.
FYI I am will be injecting roughly 5% water mixture into my race car when its built.
