Engine has 400 hours up on it ,carby cleaner put through every 100 hours.
I am useing Valvoline tcw 3 oil, plugs are new.
I mainly troll for marlin and find that after a couple of ours of trolling at 2800 to 3200 rpm ,if I pull it out of gear it will stall.
When I go to re start it it has a major flat spot of idle till I get back up to 2000 plus rpm, It does not blow smoke at this time.
I allways use fresh petrol.
I know it sounds like the plugs are oiling up , but I am suspicious of the oil.
Can any one give me some feedback on this.

Thanks in advance
Randy Kickass.

I used the Valvoline tcw 3 oil (from Kmart) for about 10 years.
5 years in 100:1 pre mix 1984 40hp Yammy
5 years in oil inj 1986 120HP Evinrude.

I never had any lubrication issues but it was smokey in the 120hp. I never had plug fouling issues. Ive now switched to Quicksilver oil for the 120hp and there is less smoke.

Sorry i cant answer your question directly though.

What is your fuel system filtration like????

ie have you got a racor??

I would suggest you have idle passage issues, carby cleaner does jak sh!t for crap in a carby

I have same model motor with 500 hrs and used for trolling a lot also. I find that after several hours trolling at 1800 - 2500rpm, motor gets smokey and needs a run to clear out muck. I have found by going back to OMC genuine oil has reduced smoke, fumes and fouling - seems to run smoother than other cheaper oils. Could need a service??

Hi Randy, I have the 115 johnson ocean pro 2000 model. I to do a bit of trolling. I use the johnson oil. This is what the previous owner was using so I have just stuck with it. I cannot remember who told me but somebody said not to use the valvoline in the johnsons. I dont know if it is related to your problem but it might be worth going to johnson oil for the next trip to see if it makes a difference. I dont seem to have a problem with mine. I am using the 50 weight oil.

Cant hurt.
