At present there is no tie down system in my boat there is only 4 pcs of plastic screwed to the floorto form a rectangle around the battery . I am about to construct from 50x50 ally angle 2 retainers to go down the long sides of the battery where I will be able to fix the battery clamp to.

My question to you all is, is there enough movement back and forward while you are travelling on road and water that I need to put 2 shorter pcs to retain the front and rear of the battery. Or will the tie down hold it firm enough.

I donit have enough room under transom for one of those fancy plastic battery boxes.

Griz, I did much the same on my previous boat, the cross member across the top held it in place because it goes between the raised tops for each cell. Never moved.

Have a yarn to Vic1
I just made him a battery box out of ali that fits into a slide mechanism so he can just unlock and slide the battery out in while it's still in it's box. Like a dill I didn't take any pictures. :-[
Hope he's happy with it?? :-/
Vic1 may be able to take some pictures for you.

as i understand the ali angle will go along the top of the battery? if this is the case make sure you have plenty of cleanance from the terminals because murthies law say that if theres not at the most inconverient time the straps will come loose and ark out, at best blowing your battery or even risk fire to the boat

re-inventing the wheel again ::) but I guess if I had to cost mine it would be about $5. Would have been quicker your way but :-/
