Johnson 140 four stroke - your thoughts?

Hey all new member here from brissy

Ive just purchased a Johnson 140 four stroke from george at wynnum and redco trailer and few electricals to go onto my 18ft centre cabin, but from what ive read on this site, not alot of yous are happy with the performance of the 140 four stroke?
Is it the response?? how quick it gets to its top speed? because i cant see how a 140hp 2 stroke is faster then a 140 hp four stroke, if they both have the same power, only difference would be how quick they reach top speed but it cant be that much of a difference if we are talking new engines???

I guess ill have to see how the 140hp performs, especially off shore and crossing the bar.

I also wanted to ask what is the different between the 140 johnson and 140 suzuki? exactly the same internals? specs look exactly the same, just different colour casing?? but the 140 suzuki L is 186kg and the johnson 140 L is 189? something has to be different in this engine?

Astro,I've recently picked up my boat with a 140 4s Johnson. It is a TABS C/C 5.3 Terriotory Pro,the hull weight is 800kg with 150 L fuel tank. I put it across a weigh bridge and it come up at 1400kgs all up. Take trailer weight away 340kgs = 1060kgs with 75L fuel and fishing gear included.
I have done two runs out to Hutchies with a crew of 3 plus esky and ice. 150L of fuel,out and back from Scarborough is 2hrs plus trolling and drifting + 3hrs running. I've used 55 L of fuel both trips.My previous boat, 4.8 bowrider 75hp 2s Merc used 80L of fuel.
This motor has all the power I will ever need, quick out of the hole, cruise at 4800rpm 28kts, WOT 5800rpm 35kts.

as you mentioned there is a connection between suzi and johnson, pretty sure its the same block.. dont know where the similarities end..

lots of people really rate the suzi 140 highly, so im assuming the johnson is up there too.. pretty vague i know, but i reakon you should be happy with it

Just to add some more. When I ordered my boat,we were trying to get 06 140hp motor,The dealer had a 05 140hp in stock as well. I received a call saying the 06 models were unavailable as Suzuki had stopped supplying Johnson. What they had done was cut there quota of motors. Apparently 2/3rds of the production were leaving the factory painted white. No the dealer wasn't telling porkys because I had chased the story up and a Johnson rep had told me the same story. All in all they are exactly the same motors, mine is XL 25" 193kgs.
