My father has nearly finished construction of a 42ft, Grainger designed, cataraman in Nhulunbuy (Gove) NT. Only problem is he has very little boating experience and needs to bring the boat to Brisbane. He needs someone who is experienced navigating the region and sailing to deliver the boat. Are there any people or companies around which specialise in this sort of thing?

Didn't he build the thing to go sailing?
What sort of electronics has he got?
Has it got decent propulsion?
Basically It'll be reach across the gulf - do it soon because once the doldrums hit he'll be going nowehere fast.
Check the tides through the P.O.W. sound at the Cape (tide runs at 5+ knots), chuck a righty (starboardy) and beat south for three weeks :)

If only I had the time I'd love to bring it down for him.

On a more serious note - delivery Captains advertise in the classisifeds of Trade-a-boat etc., but aren't cheap.

He'd be better advised to contact any of the yacht clubs around and advertise the trip and crew requirements, on their noticeboard, offering free food etc., there'll be no end of takers once they hear 42ft Grainger..... I'm certainly jealous.
As his skills improve, these notice boards can be used to find crew that are more 'fun' orientated than skill orientated.... ;)

Thanks C.J. #:)

Yes he built it to go sailing #::) but its the lack of experience that is a concern :-?
He has Navman electronics, sounder, chart plotter and radar.
I don't no much about the sail, rigging etc but he has twin yanmar diesel engines.
He is planning to bring it down at the end of the year.
What is the P.O.W.? How do you find about the current flow and other traps for novices?
I will be sure and mention the noticeboard approach.

Cheers,
Jason

Prince of Wales Island/sound. The area at the tip of Cape York has fast running tides. All admiralty charts show this and I'd be surprised if the Navman Chart plotter didn't show it also.
The boat sounds like it'd be perfectly fine for any coastal passage. I can ask around if any yachties I know would be interested in delivering for you if you wish?

Regards,

C.J.

Yep, thats what he's planning to af, find someone who is going through at the same time he plans on leaving. He's gonna break it in, so to speak, for a month or so staying close to Gove then make the journey south.
