Just noticed this afternoon, some fluid coming out of the top of the piston that lifts the motor up (Mariner 2000 model). Popped a teaspoon approx of some hydraulic seal refresher in the container part.
Its only 5 years old! is this something to be concerned about with these newer models? :-?

the seal softener is only "micky mouse oil"
and wont do any thing to stop the leak.
Odds are that you have a small burr or nick on the shaft and it has damaged the seals or they are just plain worn out from too much up and down.
It can only be fixed by dismantling, repairing any damage, new seals and reaasemble

Not familiar with your model but does it have 1 ram or 2small and 1 large

Unfortunatley the large rams are as dear as poison $400 ish :-X

At least being a 2000 model it should come apart easily :-[

Its one ram, big enough not as big as some I've seen on the yammies and honda's, from memory its about 150mm tall by 100wide with the fill at the front.

Never seen trouble with them before, but thanks Blaze, makes sense the thing will have a o'ring or something. Rang a merc dealer who said a tilt Rod kit is about $650!
anyway
boat = bring over a thousand!

at that price I would be seeing a hyd specialist, they can also access seals with stainless springs in them or if its a dodgey merc size seala trip to a machine shop to machine to take an off the shelf seal
cheers
