Took my H/cabin with a early 80s 70hp Evinrude out to day for the first time. Went for a few hours with the Mrs and kids. On the way back i ended up with virtually no drive from the prop, i have normal thrust at idle and just above idle but at 1/4 throtal and above its like a slipping clutch. Wants to rev but virtually no foward motion. Back it off to just above idle and forward motion again. Max speed i can get out of it before the problem starts again is 4 knots. i didnt hit anything and the spline on the prop shaft and the prop seem ok. Any ideas?

ozkat,
sounds like you have spun a prop bush :-/
you need to take the prop to a repairer for re bushing.
What area do you live in so we can recommend a repairer for you

Thanks Garry, im at Nerang, just west of the Gold Coast. I hope thats all it is. i was starting to think big $$ i have a spare prop so ill give that a try anyway. But id still like to get the old prop repaired and use that as a spare. Thanks again Garry i really wasnt expecting such a quick reply. Cheers Shayne
