Thinking of bunging a power winch on my new trailer in case I open my hand on oyster shells again!! ;D. Boat is 16ft 6" glass and weighs aound 800kg all up. I see a few guys taking several minutes to connect up to their car battery and the winding seem to take forever. Looks agonising.
Any ideas? # #[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

brett .....JUST DO IT you will wonder why you have not done it before I have a 712 on my rig it's a 4.85m Savage Scorpion and it is a over kill but it come with the deal, I have quick releases on the winch so it enables me to just slide it of when the boat is at the ramp and I have a FUSED power plug at the rear so to set it up when I get back to the ramp is about 2 Min and that includes pulling the cable ou. I also have a DOG retractable walking # lead that I clip to the winch so i can opperate it from the back of the trailer. Would have to be the best thing about retreiving you boat SO SIMPLE.
This is the one I own http://www.powerwinch.com/Trailer_Winches/Trailer_Winches.html

P.S. There are Cheapies #B U T ...... if you intend to be boating for some time to come, pay for quality and just transfer it to your next boat simple.

I too use a 712 power winch from the usa for a 580 cruise craft outsider that must weigh about 1500kgs fully loaded.
Pulls it up no problems, great bit of kit and lets you load/unload single handed without the chance of boat/trailer damage. I run a cord down the side of the trailer that attaches to the winch mounted switch.
I got mine in as new condition ex usa on ebay, cost $125US plus $60 us sea freight. Saved heaps over the oz prices.
Dont try one ofthe cheap ex china super cheap types as their pretty poor unless its just for the most baisc task.
Cheers Mark
