Just installed a Navman mb/cb radio. A gift from the beatiful wife for the new boat. Never used one before and need to know the basics. I am aware that ch 88 is emergincy and ch9 for cb but need to know when offshore, what ch should i be on to call some one, what ch and who do i call for weather update?etc

Talk to the local VMR or Coastguard pending where you are.
The information will be straight from the horses mouth then :)
Good on your wife thinking about the extra security you have with the 27meg [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

On the top of this Boating Chat page is a sticky subject called Qld. rescue details etc.

Also go to Page 2 of the Eletronics Chat Page and there is a post I put up some weeks about this subject - just ignore ther VHF references (till she gets a new ICOM VHF for you!)

Have a dig those and see what there is, and strongly recommend you PM a member called SUBZERO who runs a great marine radio course at VMR Victoria Point every couple of months.

Well worth the time to do it and with Fathers Day coming up, hit the Missus for a good VHF radio.
