iam interested in upgrading my 2 stroke 75 yammie to something a little quicker, quieter and save a bit of fuel.i think my boat is a little under powered (allycraft 535 center consol) as top speed is 22knots with a full tank(110lt) and 2 people on board.
i went to see the susuki dealer and got a few quotes on the 90 & the 115 4stroke ($11900 and $13490) are these the best prices for these outboards?thats excluding fitting. both outboards are under my 200kg allowance weight.
question is if i would choose the 90hp would that make my boat considerably quicker than the 75 2stroke ?and would the 90 4str taking weight into consideration be alot better fuel econ ?or would i be better to invest in the 115?
i went and saw evinrude etec but the 115 topped 16k. so a bit over my price range.
cheers daniel

Have you checked the Mercury Optimax.

I am very happy with economy and sound is fair.

2 Years trouble free.

Gday Fishface,

I had a 115hp on my 5.4m Ally Craft so maybe you are a little underpowered. I used to get 36kts with 4 or 5 people on board.
Go at least the 90hp Suzuki 4stk. I now have a 6.4m boat with a 175hp Suzuki 4stk on it and am very happy with the motor. I get roughly the same economy with the 175 as I did with the Merc 115 2stk.

Cheers, Scotty.

thanks for the advice.
anyone know is there room for haggling on the prices like at car dealers or are the prices pretty much fixed?
does anyone have a 90 4 stroke on the back of an allycraft 535?

90 Honda...outboard of the century I have been told. You just can't go wrong with it.

Evening FF,
Of course there is room for a price movement on any OB. ;) ;) You have to be persistant, decide on your motor first, then haggle. Some dealers will try to charge outrageous prices for fitting - $800-1000. Screw them down as the rigging holes are already in your transom. Make sure all wiring is "tinned" marine grade. All fasteners 316 grade SS. Get everything in a written quote.
I am biased, I have a Johnsu 90 4 St (Suzi painted white). Great donk. Give Col at Fisher Boats a call. He is a Suzi dealer & his prices & service seem competitive.
If your 75 Yammie is in good nick you will get heaps more for a private sale Vs trade in. May be a little more hassle though.
