Hey i will be having 2 12v deep cycle batteries installed in my new boat to power my 70lb Minn Kota. I am wondering if there is any type of automatic charger that can be hooked up to the boat engine alternator and automatically keeps the batteries charged without overcharging them ?

Or am i best to go for one of those ones that Minn Kota sell that you just plug into 240volt everytime you get home ? Also i'm wondering how do you bridge the two 12 volt batteries for use with a 24v electric motor ?

hi jack,

to get 24v from 2x12v batt you need to connect them in series ie connect
the load to +ve on 1st batt & -ve on the 2nd batt. then put a lead between the -ve on 1st batt & +ve on the 2nd batt. clear as mud :o :o
I would use heavy duty cable to reduce resistance. If your motor has electric start then it has an alternator & should have a voltage regulator
I would confirm this with the manufacturer or good mechanic.hope this helps
