Hi all. Could someone please explain to me in laymen terms what ratio of oil/fuel is needed for my 1980's something 2 stroke, 3 cyl, 60hp Johno VRO motor. The Oil injection has been removed. :-[ I am currently experiencing a knocking in the engine and think I am grossly under lubeing the poor bugger :'( Currently using Synthetic Valvoline.

Thanks in advance ;)

1 litre of oil for every 50 litres of fuel

50:1

use any oil as long as it is rated at TCW3

I use this table for quick calcs on oil ratio.

I recon it is shown the wrong way,but so be it.

Should be 1:50.
In simple terms, how many times does 50 divide into 1000ml.of fuel.
The answer of course is 20ml,

so 20ml oil to 1000 ml (litre) or 1:50

or 400ml oil to 20,000ml of fuel. same answer1:50

or on a smaller scale 2ml oil 100ml fuel again 1:50
Easy to remember the larger number is the fuel.

when your motor was built there was no synthetic oils I would recommend to ring up your nearest boat people and find what oils were used with older motors.. perhaps someone here may know.....

Strewth!!

Definitely 50 parts petrol to 1 part oil..we're not running a diesel or equivalent.

Maybe a reason we have so many gripes about motor performance :-?..or so many DEATHs at sea due to a motor giving up the ghost >:( >:(

A bit scary!

The table is shown correctly...on top is says "Petrol to oil ratio"..then underneath 50:1

50:1 ... double the fuel(lt) and add a zero(ml). eg 40lt Fuel -> double it (80) -> add zero (800 ml).

Works for me.

Just use the table its easier, all you have to do is some addition.

Just print it out and stick it on your wall near your oil :-?

Buy one of those 2 litre outboard oil bottles with the sight gauge in the side. They are graduated at 100ml intervals. For every 5 litres of fuel you put in the tank, add 100ml of oil. 20 litres: 400ml - 50:1 - simple!

Sorry Pinhead, I wasnt referring to your table, but the term in general.I would rather it be shown as 1:50.

That is one oil to 50 petrol. Its the reason people get confused.

Then it doesnt matter if its 1 cup to 50 cups,1 gallon to 50 gallons.

or 1 litre to 50 litres,or 1 ml to 50 ml. or one hat full to 50 hat fulls
( Got to have a waterproof hat though)

I bought a little doodat a few years ago that saved me all the hassle... It's just a measuring container with a screw on lid (So nothing leaks). It has multiple lists down the side, and you spin it til you find what mix you want (In this case 50:1 or 1:50 :D). It then has a line down it with a Litre mark as it goes up. I think 20L was near the top. Essentially if you are puting in 20L of fuel, you fill the measuring cup up to the 20L mark. This was then the correct amount (400mL in this case). Cost me about $8 and is so easy. Never have to calculate anything ;)

I probably haven't explained it properly though...
