Should the motor be run out of fuel evertime ? There are 2 schools of thought on this one which is correct

Yes it is best to burn all the fuel out of the motor. That is my thought. Your motor your choice ;)

NO
every time you run your motor out of fuel it runs lean, you know what happens when ya motor runs lean. It burns a piston. So you say its only for a split second, yep ya right but a split second often enough will in the long term do the same damage. If you have extended times without using the motor you are far better to drain the fuel from the drain screws on the carbie.

Ps
if you say yes, please qualify your statement with a reason for your answer

Diffenently not. Run dry = no lube = rebuild = no $ = unhappy wife = no fishing

Don't know what would be the benefit of running dry, I could only think to possibly stop fouling during storage period but a motor should be run peridoicly anyhow. Could some one tell what the benefits are suppose to be?

Just my opinion

never,no oil to keep bigend, littleend&main bearings, bore with a coating to stop rusting, let alone what it would do to pistons. My own preference :)We used to spray oil into the carbys to stall out the motor if it was going to sit for a while, that way everything was well lubed and didnt take too much to get them going again.

No .I've got a grey band 115 il6 and when I flush it turn it off just before it starts to slow down prior to stopping.Given enoughpractise you will know when that is,on mine its about 40-50 seconds at idle.I also got a tub made to suit my motor so not to waste too much water.Put some detergent in the water.Makes flushing quieter and tests the water pump every time you flush as you can have a failing impellar that looks ok under mains pressure from muffs.

Familyman is on the money. Run your pre-mix motor til it starts to pick up speed (leaning out) then shut off. Oil injected motors.. Leave the fuel in, but run regularly to minimise gum. Add Whitworths Chemtec petrolpower to the fuel and try to keep fuel as freash as possible. No more than 6 weeks or 12 weeks with stabiliser.
