problem with live well

just installed a live well in my tinnie,the well itsself is great but the pump that drags the water up to it keeps loosing it seal and starts to suck air.its 50mm under the water line and wont prime too well unless i push water hard into it,as soon as a wave comes past it sucks air and then wont pump once back in water.do i put a bend on the intake to go under the boat so as to prime as moving forward or is there anything else i can do or is the new pump stuffed?

you need some sort of scoop/pickup

got a pic of your setup under the boat.. makes giving an opinion so much easier
