I put a set of Bennett's M80's on my boat with a Auto trim tab control to keep the boat at an optimum attitude when running. #It's great, stops the lean caused by wind and makes the boat handle a lot better. #

I was looking at the Lenco tabs which are completely electric, and therefore easier to fit, but was advised that the Bennetts which are #Hydraulic and electronic, are more durable and cheaper to fix if they break. #The dealer sold both brands and so it made no difference to him which ones he sold. #He said if salt water got into the Lenco rams, that the whole thing had to be replaced, whereas the Bennetts can be repaired.

The Bennetts came with all the fitting instructions DVD and templates, and I dare say the lenco would be the same. #Cost me about 700 bucks and I fitted them myself.

I'm not saying that either brand is better than the other. #I think either brand would serve equally well.

fitting them to a 6.4 plate boat, and i,m on the sunny coast, just want to get the best and was wondering what sort of money aswell, i have twin motors that trim but i just thought the boat might benifit more by having trim tabs or is it just a matter of working out how to use these motors to trim? only just bought this boat and just settle,n in to it but my mlittle more experience says they would help alot and i had them on my last boat and they were great just don,t know whats good or whats bad thats why i thought i would send it up the flag pole, cheers boys keep the info coming

Hi Rich, it's a 6mtr Quintrex half cab. You find a few of the aluminum boat manufactures are fitting them to their boats which are over 6 mtrs, as standard.

I know the larger mass produced tinnies like mine definitely benefit from them. Mine certainly did. You probably wouldn't need them on high quality plate boat like a Fisher or a Riptide, or some of the quality glass brands.

Plateys like the ones mentioned need tabs to get the best out of the hull in the majority of conditions. Tabs will make a bad hull design better and also make a good hull design better still. One of the first things I'll be specing on my newy :P :P :P :P 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Bennets all they way too ;)

Cheers

Yeah Greg your probably right, and I agree with you, "tabs will make a bad hull design better and also make a good hull design better still."

But I've had arguments with people in the past who are purists. Their argument is that if it is a well made and designed hull, and if the motor is installed and trimmed correctly, then you shouldn't need any tabs, and I can see merit in that argument too. Boat builders put a lot of effort into designing hulls to perform without the need of trim tabs.

But after having them on my current boat, I think the next one will have them on too, even though it's going to be one of those high quality plate boats. :)
