I am about to order a new motor for my tinney.
At the moment has a 1995 25 hp merc.
Would a new 25 hp have more power than the old merc or shoud i go for the 30hp.
Mainly only me and the cook that are in it.

I would have to agree with Cameron, don't go over the manufacturers rating for insurance reasons. A 25hp USA built Merc 2006 model is the same as a 1995 USA built Merc bar the cowling, so you wouldn't really get much more power. I have heard good things about 25hp twin-carb yammie's but I own a 30hp Mariner which is built by Tohatsu, and this motor is identical to the 25hp Tohatsu except for a restriction plate. It would be rougher at idle than your current Merc and unless you removed the restriction plate, no more powerful because both are 25hp 430cc single carb motors. Cheers, Joey.

I have a 3.95 allycraft with a 25hp.
I find is enough for my purposes.
If you are unhappy with performance you can change the size of your propellor for different needs and loads.
I have a smaller propellor which in turn gives more speed with light load.
Ask around or go to a propellor website for more info.

Troy,

Id go for the 30hp.

If your specifications say 25hp you can get this changed by getting the transom modified.
Belieive it or not this does not cost much too do.
Have fun mate with the extra ponies.
nnneeeeehhhhh ;D

Mate if I was you I would go for the most hp as possible. It don't hurt to have the extra power. Just get your transom strengthend then pick the best motor for your boat. It helps to have the extra power when you have weight in the boat from all the fish you will catch ;D ;D
