ordered and just recevied quicksilver red stator kit new from usa took 8 days from paying for it by parcel post cost part $350usa plus $50 mail =aus $550 Quoted here $1000 cost price to mercury dealer plus there mark up i fluked it bit below retail on ebay still big saving if you can wait

Wayne, the red stator kit is not $1000 in Australia. Not even close....

Whoever quoted you that needs to be closely examined.

They are not $1000.....

I'm not 100% sure, but I think mine was about $650 for the stator. (50 merc)
I was trying to be in a happy place at the time, so don't quote me, but I don't think it would have been much more.

Dumb Question time. What is a Red Stator kit? :-[

Mercs (at least earlier ones) had either a black or red stator.
The black ones were known to fail regularly.
The red ones probably do too, but the look faster ;)

Sorry Reel Nauti, I haven't been around here for a bit. Depending on engine the 16Amp red stator kit with regulator retails about $750 or thereabouts. The 9 Amp kit (unregulated) is around $500..
