Is it Mad Turk's one with the Volvo diesel?
Peronally I like the layout of them but have never been in one. Currently running a 702 Signature.

No its not Mad Turk's.
Is his for sale?

Lol.
Yes it is. Last seen on Ebay!
I had one a few years ago, like Turks with a Mercruiser 135hp.
Nice boat which I would recommend. My Mercruiser was a tad underpowered, but the boat performed fairly well. You will get your feet wet standing in the back corner at rest, as the self drainers are not perfect, and do wet the cockpit floor.
I have owned a number of boats, and would recommend a Southwind SF20 over the 575. I have owned two and they perform awesomely, can't praise their performance at all.
Ask specific questions and I will be happy to help.

The SF20 was released in 1991 and finished production in 1998 (replaced by SF655).
Which model/year do believe is the best?

Hey Jonah,
They both use the same hull, the SF/R20 (91-98), and the SF655 (98-now). The deck is different.
I personally prefer the SF20, as its styling and functionality of walk through screen appeal to me better.
The performance when matched to a 175/200 is awesome, truly performance boat not just fishing boat. Soft riding, dry, and confidence building.
I am told the higher and heavier deck on the SF655 makes the hull lose some of its sparkle. But you couldn't go wrong with either.
You will buy an SF20 for the same if not less money today than the 575F of the same year.

Thanks mate, but I might opt for a true cabin boat, especially when overnighting.
And I would really like a Haines, not that I've had one before.
Hey - Marty from the Bool, are you online?

Hey Jonah,
I have a Cruise Craft 575 Outsider that i have been very happy with. I have recently seen a couple from mid 90's models going for reasonable $. I think they were called a 550 then.
happy hunting :)

The SF20 is a true cabin boat. Im 6ft and spent many happy nights sleeping aboard.
It has a walk through windscreen, with an opening top deck, allowing access to the bow for anchoring from within the cabin. It's an excellent and rare set up.

Darren,
Oh well on that basis I will look out for one.
What about porta potty provision? Is this still possible given the walk through cabin?
Alex - I also like the Crusie Craft outsider but dont see many in Vic. An old mates got a 550 and its a great boat, but probably need something a bit bigger (4 kids).
If either of you hear of any in quality condition and good price, feel free to let me know.
I've just sold an old Yalta Offshore 4.57m all 1985 package.
Time to upgrade.
Cheers Guys

Hey Jonah,
Most SF20's have provision for or do have a porta potti fitted.
My old SF20 is in Trade a boat this month, page 226. I dont own it anymore, and he's asking what I sold it for, $29990. It's not on boatpoint now so may be sold. It was a nice boat.

That one is in Willamstown Victoria, and in good nick. Maybe a tad expensive though.
There is another on tradingpost for $25500 in Sydney. Don't know the condition though.
My old 575F was for sale again recently also for $29990. It too has gone so i'd say it's sold.

Darren,
You are right, these are great looking boats. Good size too.
I am now keen to find one.
Dollars might be an issue. I'm only looking to spend $25k and just missed a '97' 575F and '97' 560F at this price.
The Williamstown boat looks great, but outside the budget.
I will check the sydney trading post.
Also a 1994 model in Adelaide for $27,500 seems basic though, no canopy etc.
What year was your old SF20?

Hey,
I've owned two over the years.
A 92 model, and the later one which was just sold again was a 96 model.
I've seen pics of the one in Sydney and it looks pretty good.

Nice. Well done. You won't be sorry.
Is it the 94 model in Adelaide you mentioned earlier? How much did you pick it up for, and where did you find it?
Post some pics when you're sorted.

Darren,
Yes it is the Adelaide boat.
94 model with original 175 Yammy 169 hours so whole package has had very little use.
2003 Dunbeir trailer with electric winch, spare etc.
All great condition and fully optioned for fishing eg electronics, canopy, rod holders, etc.
Even has full boat and engine cover.
Negotiated down to $25,500 was originally $29,500 at boat show.
Cant send pics via here (too big).
If you give me your home email I will definately send.
Ps. What's this hull like at rest and with two blokes to one side?

Hey Jonah,
Sounds like a good rig. The hull is good at rest also, you won't feel uncomfortable even with three big blokes on the same side. They are a good all round boat.
Where did you find the boat? My mate is having trouble finding them. We know about trading post, ebay and boatpoint, is there somewhere else you are searching for boats?

Darren,
Google search - Southwind SF20 and read every link.
Boat is at Christies Beach Marine. If you search this, it may still be showing.
There are 4 photos, but save them to your computer and then open, as this gives a far better view.
Tell me what ya think.
Also have photos of the Newcastle boat advertised for $25,500.
Doesn't look as clean, and isn't fully optioned for fishing, but would go for better price.

Hey Pete,
I think that 575F is overpriced for what it is. I've seen it in the flesh as it's just down the road from work. From memory I think they want about 38k.
Jonah,
I had seen that one before. Is she antifouled? And with a quality trailer too I see. Looks like it has been totally re-upholstered with some bright colours. Nice. Put a nice bimini with clears and you've got yourself a great boat.

Darren,
Why do you suggest the antifoul?
Luckily it already has the bimini and clears.
Baitboard is all I need to buy.

Hey Jonah,
In the pics on their website it looks like the boat has black antifoul. It is hard to see on the website though. It doesn't show the bimini or clears either.
Either way, you've got yourself a pretty good buy.
Pete,
Looking to spend less than the 30k mark, and pick up the elusive bargain! The 635, although an awesome hull, is a little old for the money. A later model, I think they made them up until 1996, would be the only one we'd consider, with an outboard on it.

Hi Guys, I have just purchased a 1997 model SF20 - picked mine up for 26k Has 300hrs on a 200hp yammy. Got it from the sunshine coast, am having it towed to Townsville next week. This is my first SF20, previously had a 6mt plate boat, 6mt Hydrofield and a 600R. I specifically wanted an SF20 as from what I have heard they are a good allround offshore rig.

Huh, well there you go! Yes, it was on Ebay and in Trade a Boat. I actually saw it for sale around 12 months ago at a dealer near Glass House, but I wasn't in the position to buy then and it was sold. They wanted nearly 35k for from memory. The people I got it from live near Maloolibah, am looking forward to taking it to the reef next week - weather permitting.
Looks like it has been well looked after, thanks :)
How did it go in the rough stuff, and from memory how big is the fuel tank?
boatboy50
02-08-2006, 04:04 PM
Hey Leezor,
I'm pretty sure it didn't sell for mid 30's twelve months ago, I saw it then too, at a number of different yards. It was for sale for a while but i'm sure was withdrawn and not sold.
I sold it to a guy who lived on the sunny coast, i'm sure somewhere near the glasshouse mountains. Him, wife and 2 kids came in a white 100 series cruiser which was raised with bigger springs. I sold it to him for $29,500.00.
Handles chop very well, and holds 160L of fuel from memory.
The boat originally was owned by an old bloke who kept it in the whitsundays. I can't remember if I removed the whitsunday tackle stickers that where on it.
He passed away and i bought it off his kids on the gold coast. It hadn't been used for at least a couple of years when I bought it. I did a lot of work to it, including repainting the red, as it had been neglected from no use or maintenance. I also redid all the brakes and axles on the trailer.

Yep, sounds like the same people I got it from. They have just seperated so they needed to get rid of it. It has just under 300hrs on the engine now, how many hours where on it when you sold it?

From memory, what sort of range where you getting from the tank?

06-08-2006, 03:18 PM
Hey Leezor,
You should expect her to run at around 20l/h at 4000 rpm, doing somewhere around 25 knots. The rough will slow you up a little more.
