Almost time to renew the insurance on the boat so I decided to look around at what else is available.

Currently insured with Company A - paying about $1600 per annum with $2000 excess.
I investigated Company B - premium is also about $1600 per annum with $1000 excess.

I then looked at Company C which is the underwriter for Company B - premium is $1500 per annum with $1000 excees.
I am now changing insurance to Company C - agreed value also - cheaper and less excess - just hope I never have to make a claim anyway.

All have $10 mill liability cover.

Sure shows it can pay to shop around and see who is underwriting your insurance and contact them direct.

do you mind me asking what your boat is worth and does that affect the premium by much?

LOL gunna..long way short of it mate.

Smailesy..it is through a broker..a good mate manages an insurance brokerage..have all my business insurance through them also.

Chimo...you have one out of the three correct. I don't think it would be astute of me to name the companies on here...if you want to know who I am now going to insure with then you can send me a pm.

Mike..my cover is just over ten times what yours is therefore the premium is quite good...not ten times the $350 for 20K.

PinHead pardon my ignorance but why are you looking for a better deal when you have a broker he should be chasing it up for you

He does all the enquiring and gets the quotes etc..I then read them all and decide who I want to insure with.

dnej...NRMA was not interested in insuring my boat when I bought it so I am not interested in contacting them again.

Did they say why.

at that time they told me they did not insure boats like mine..mainly trailerbale boats..but that is not the point of my original thread..it was to point at that by checking who is actually underwriting the insurance you may be able to save a few bucks by contacting the underwriters direct.

Sure, but NRMA do insure trailer boats, and have agreed value,so something is wrong. Before I retired, I had a lot to do with insurance placement. Only a veryfew insurers have agreed value cover.

dnej...my boat is not a trailerable boat hence the reason why they did not want to insure it.

Pinhead,
I had "issues" with a insurer but have again gone with them until next year, i pay $600 per year with $200 excess for 40k boat . Am interested in party C if you could pm me their details and i will follow up. Reason mine has gone up from last year is due to my recent claim.

Hey Deiter
I think you might like to look for insurance even if it's third party to cover your a'''e as you might be a long time before you can afford to go boating again if you hit something or someone.
Does't matter what values on what your sitting in CHARTER BOAT what CHARTER BOAT.
Had a few close calls myself with Jetski idiots
