I'm thinking of buying a 5.6m Quintrex classic , 96/97 model , 97 model 90hp Yamaha . Private sale he's asking around $16000 .
Any thoughts or comments appreciated .

G day BuggerIt
They are a very roomy rig. Ive seen a few around the $16-20K mark.
Id wonder how the 90hp would go if you needed to carry a load a reasonable distance (say the family and pinic gear) ..... but depening on how you use it, that would be fine.
The yammy is only 3 cylinders (lighter) but a Jono or Evinrude of the same age would be a V4 cylinder and have a bit more torque (but also weigh a fraction more prob?)
If the budget allows have a look for a 5.6 with the full length "maxi transom". These came out just b4 the millenium hull. The hull is extended into the pod, rather than just having the 1/2 pod extension. They effectivally make the boat a bit longer and give better stern boyancy. But they are hard to find and will cost more too.
Summing up, the rig you mention is a very honest package. Just check for excessive paint bubbling. Ive seen some quinnys around that age where the corrosion was more than just paint bubbling :o
