As some of you know, we moved up to Brisbane from Melbourne last Christmas.
Only now am I getting around to changing all the vehicles over to Queensland registration.
So last week I changed over my licence and a car, that involved getting a safety inspection done on the car and presenting the car for visual verification of the VIN number and engine number. The Licence change was a matter of presenting my Victorian licence, proving who I am and then verification of a Queensland address (all as you would expect).
Today was time to go down again and this time change over a motorbike and the boat.
To get the motorbike swapped over I had to get a safety inspection and once again present it for a visual verification of the chassis number and the engine number.
HOWEVER, to get the boat into Queensland registration all I had to do was fill out a form and pay the fee, no need to present it for their visual verification of numbers. I understand that moored boats can't be presented to their office, but they are not the likely target of thieves.
To me trailer boats should be reqired to be presented for inspection if you have to change the rego over, I certainly had to present it to get it registered when back I was back in Vic.
Seems to me that the rules are a bit slack in this area.
