Hey guys just looking to fit a new motor to the dart 375. Do you think there would be any problems in fitting a Tohatsu 30hp because they are only $300 more than the 18hp.

What do you guys reckon? :-/

What does your compliance plate say is the Max HP? If you're putting on above that you might have insurance issues. You also need to consider the weight difference between the outboards - you might find your bum's too heavy...

Good luck,
Mike

Insurance isn't a worry, Compliance plate states 20hp and max transom weight of 100kg, The 25/30hp is 50kg which would be the same or less weight then a 20hp fourstroke. Can the waterpolice fine you for having an outboard bigger then wats stated on plate? can you just take the sticker off?

Hey,

I had a 30hp on the back of a Quintrex Bass 3.85m

Went great...no stress cracks...no buckleing
Cheers

I'm not sure if you could be fined, check that with MSQ.

However, a fine would be the least of your worries if you cause damage or injury by exceeding the manufacturers specs. I'd strongly recommend you don't risk it for your own sake and others.

Good luck,
Mike

Thanks guys for your help reply, i just don't want to buy an outboard, set it all up with floor and accessories and find out i can row faster because the outboard is too small.

If you're going to fit floors, front & rear casting platforms etc, the manufacturer or a boat builder may recertify your rig for the bigger engine.

Usually, where a manufacturer has options up from a base tinny, the more optioned tinnies will have a certification for bigger heavier engines.

Still, you need to keep in mind the overall effect of a heavier engine. It could definitely make your boat heavy assed.
