Side consoles in a tinny - Beginners question....

While I am on the subject of throwing around thoughts, in an attempt to convert a tinny to forward steering, is it possible to mount a side mount console to a tinny in front of the front thwart seat, directly behind the front 'shelf' (sorry, don't know exact name), giving enough room to sit on the thwart seat - or is there generally not enough room in front of the thwart?

Alternatively, I'm looking for ideas to convert a basic tinny to front controls (but not 'centre') so driver and fishing buddy can sit side by side and still get protection from the windscreen (that will be custom made for it). Most I've seen have been centre consoles further back with little protection from the elements.....

I imagine you are asking about a genreal runabout layout? With regards to room or lack there of, all depends on the size and make of tinny. Go the the local boatyards and check a few out. Pay particular attention to the runabout models.
