Hi all
after some opinions on a 97 model 225 merc, I think I can get this donk for a good price but its minus the gearbox.
How hard will it be to find a box at the right price
what is the right price
any inherent problems
cheers

Hey Blaze,

Not a bad motor. Heavy on the fuel, but a very strong powerhead.

I operated one of these for 12 months. We put on 1200 hours commercially before upgrading to an Optimax. The EFI was reliable, but drunk heavily.

I personally wouldnt pay any more than about 6-7k for one in excellent condition. I'm sure with some searching you could find one for as low as 4500k complete with box.

Ensure you know how many hours are on the engine. A Mercury dealer can plug in the lap top and read it off the EFI unit. Don't trust the guage.

Regards

Darren

Gearbox if you can locate one will definitely be in excess of $1000. Probably more like $1500 or higher.

Common in the US and the price even after freight for a box might appeal?

Hi Nq
mighthave a look there. this engine is really a good price and would still be a good price paying upto 2k for a box. Just got to decide if I want that much hp.

whats happened is my mate has one on his boat and done a leg, need to get back on the water and the quickest way was to buy a perfectly good motor and rip the leg off.
His does 85km, full fuel and gear, no fish.
cheers
