thanks crackerjack
new boat (2nd hand) just getting it all in my head.
when i measure the prop i get 13.375"?
the boat does 26Knots WOT
I think the tacho must give me some false readings. when first run boat i am sure it went to 6500rpm plus? :-? but yesterday it went only to 5500rpm (bit rough outside to give a good test)
are these 4stoke mercs rev limited?

hi Murf, i really not to sure if they are rev limited ( dont think so )
the rev range on your merc is 5500-6000 so ATM you are at the bottom end of your revs
IMHO you should be up in the 5800rpm
have you checked the tacho wireing? 6500rpm is way to high

I have had the same speed from variable RPMs? is it prop slip at the high end or do i investigate the tacho readings further.
Yes i have checked the connections on the back of the tacho all looks good. :)
will a standard engine analizer (cheap home workshop type) give a true tacho reading off the spark plug?
I will have to get out this week and do some tests to see exactly what it does at what rpms and WRITE IT DOWN so i can further investigate.
thanks Murf
