Hi people

I am just about to add longer chain to my anchor and was just wondering about a couple of things.

1. I have a supercat anchor that has has a hole on the end to attach the chain aswell as having the option th attach so the chain can slide from the end all the way to the blades.
Where would be the best place to attach the chain?

2. What should i use to attach the chain?
D shackle or one of those anchor swivel as sold at BIAS?

Any help or comments greatly appreciated

my personal opion is that you attach the chain to the end of the anchor via a stainless steel D shackel and have a quick realease clip on the end of the chain for easy switching between the sand plough anchor and a reef anchor, thats what i have set up on my boat and fing that it work really well.

If you go for the bias boating anchor swivel its just something else you have to replace if the anchor gets stuck and you have to cut your rope.

I would use a d shackle in the slot to attach the anchor and a couple of cable ties through to hole and around the chain. That way if it gets stuck, simply drive over the top of it and the cable ties will break and the anchor can pull out from the other end.

The idea of the slide is so you can retrieve the anchor by pulling it in the opposite direction in which it was bedded if you get it snagged so i would probably use a good stainless steel D shakle so it is easy to change if you want to put on a reef pick, but thats just my thoughts Ken ;D ;D ;D

I would never use an anchor swivel. The pin that holds it altogether is in tension and is nothing more than a peened over rivet (IMO) from looking at the photo. These can wear and snap off when you are depending on it for the safety of boat and crew. Definitely go for a D shackle of appropriate size and shape. After tightening the shackle pin, tie the pin with galvanised tie-wire passing the wire thru the hole in the pin and around the body of the shackle. Watch your hands and fingers when pulling up the anchor.
