Thinking of buying a 4.60 or 4.80 Quintrex, 2nd hand. Seen a few late models for sale ... is there something not quite right with them for people to re-sell them so soon? Is the recommended 40/60hp OK or do they need more grunt? Any recommendation to any other brands? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

The 4.6's need more grunt then a 40. I have a mate which just up graded his donk as he wanted more Horses

Hey Castlemaine,

I've got a 2nd hnd 5.3 Quinny Cuddy and I think it's great. #However it had a 90hp on it when I got it....now she's got a 115 Merc 4. #The advise I received from alot of people was to maximise the hp for the transom. #If it's rated to 115 then put that on it...don't underpower it as you'll wind up not getting the full potential out of the hull. #

Also, lots of folk on these sites will push their favourites at you ie: the poly brigade etc. #No matter what brand you're looking at, before you buy it...GET IT PROFESSIONALLY CHECKED OUT. #If everything comes up to scratch then go with what your happy with. #I did and couldn't be happier.

Good luck,

Baldey :P

I have a 4.5 ally with 40H. I find it a bit underpowered and it probably needs a 50H. Those your looking at probably need bigger than 60H. Quinnys have come up a few times on other forums with quality problems - but that happens with lots of makes. A good check should overcome that.

Depends on what type of boat and therefore weight.

Quite happy with my 475 Freedom Sport, 60 HP EFI 4 St Merc.

Uses stuff all petrol, 56 kph trimmed up and with only me aboard is about as fast as I can make it go.
If you are heading across Moreton bay there are not many days you can go flat out.

Put 4 fat fishos in and you would probably wish it had a 75 on the back.

I have considered selling mine , but not because there is anything wrong with it, I would just be going bigger, half cab maybe. :)

i got a 5.25 stacer, with a 60hp 2s. and its got plenty of get up and go. granted, its a tiller steer set up. but two blokes, and gear she'll do 60kmph, 50 comfortably. props, trim, load position, wind, moon, your star sign, how many beers youv'e had. will all make a difference to how ya boat handles. as long as the boat is set up right, you'll be right!

cheers

ps.

lippa does not condone the use of beer, whilst in the boat, in a river, with a few mates. kicking back, listening to tunes, catching stuff all!!!

gday mate
That 4.55m quinnie in the for sale section is mine.
It has a 40 on it and that does ok with 3 blokes in it for going outside.
i normally only fish 2 out of it but if you distribute the weight out its allright.

The 40 is super on fuel giving 130k from 65L fishing 3 blokes.

I am selling mine only because my dad went halves with me in a 6m platey so we can fit him me and my two brothers in it to save taking two boats 250k each way every time we go out.

Hope this answers a few questions

455 coastrunner, with 50 on it does pretty well, will plain n get along fairly well with 5 in it, but with 2-3 does a great job.32mile/hr is the best we can get, trimmed, and has a hydrafoil on the donk.
Good luck
