Hi all.

Im fairly new to the site and thought i would seek some advice on the purchase of a second hand boat for the Brisse bay and close in reef trips when weather permits.

I have a few in mind although they are old as the budget and the boss has set a limit, the ones i have thought about include.

Cruise craft reef ranger, 1st choice becuase of the fishing space etc

Nautiglass 150 cuddy cabin

Easy Rider

If anyone could give me a little advice about these boats or others that may come into consideration that would be great..

Cheers

Dan, i think you would be hard pressed to find a good Cruisecraft reef ranger under $10,000

I spent quite a while looking for a boat and the reef ranger was one of the ones on top of my list. Anything reasonable is up around the $12,00 to $18,000 mark.

There is one on ebay that doesnt look too bad but dont know what the reserve is. Looks alright, trailer is late model but outboard is old.

You will probably find a 189 easyrider for about that sort of money, but nowhere near the fishing room as the reef ranger. I used to hand around the boat ramps looking at different boats and getting an idea of price from the trailer boat trader magazine. Then narrow it down to a couple and just keep looking. I ended up finding mine about two streets from home!

find yourself a good cheap hull and trailer, should be able to pick em up under $2000 ,but shop around. You ll be surprized about the bargains to be had.If it got an motor even better ,sell that and put your leftover money and the one for the motor towards a new engine.Bit of a muckin around but this way youll be under 10k and have a new engine as well.

the reef ranger looks nice and straight but needs a new donk, she would come up a treat if you did her up and the perfect hull for moreton bay chop.

The Nautiglass boats were a reasonable boat, the Vickers EasyRider is the same boat.

Little bit of mold pinching there...... Gee hasnt the last 40 years of boatbuilding in Australia seen PLENTY of that!! hehehe

Dan,
We got ours a month ago after only a few weeks looking, got it from a Brissy boat yard who turned out to be the typ. 'used car' salesmen type, but we are happy with the boat.

We got a CruiseCraft Regal 506, 16.5 ft. 90 Johnson. Has good fishing room and does 33knots at 5000rpm. Over 14g, more than it's worth but we wanted it.

Now we just got to find the fish ;D ;D
