Hi

Is the sportfish a new boat or have you had it for some time? What motor is fitted at the moment? You should always refer to the manufacturers plate to see what the max hp/weight on transom can be fitted... Also, the honda should come with a hour gauge... so I would assume!

Those 130 Hondas are a big an heavy. It will change the way the boat will handle with all that weight down the back especially climbing out of the hole. I would be a little concerned about the transom if it is not one of the bullet proof series Sportfish.

I repowered mine with a DF140 Zuke from a 115 CETOX Yammie

I'd check that it isn't a 25" transom ???

Hi guys, it is a 1989 model & the motor at the moment is a 100hp mariner. It is a 20inch shaft & the boat hasnt got a compliance plate fitted. at the moment the boats top speed is 26knots at 5500rpm(too slow) . the reason i want to buy the honda is because i do alot of trolling.

Mate the current engine weigh's something like 160kg's and the honda around 230kg's. Youve got two choices, put the boat in the water and either have a mate that weighs around 70 kg's sit on the current engine cowling and see how much diffence the boat then sits in the water. Then put your normal crew on board and take note of how it appears. The other way is to take some sand bags on a trip that weigh 70 kgs and place them as far back as you can. Once youve established the feel of the boat its a simple case of empting them over board. The power of the 130 isnt a problem on a 550 its more a wieght issue and how the boat handles. For info on the honda i'd p.m. spaniard king # #...foxy

i have a mate with a 5.5m cuddy cabin sportfish witha 130 Honda.
it has had a big pod modification.
the pod is now level with the bottom of the boat (hull extension) and was raised to accomodate a 25 inch leg.
it is not a quick boat and finding the right prop was also a hassle.

Lucky Phill had a 130 on a Sportfish but it was a larger boat. 6M? Phill never complained about it. Bugman also had one on Bogey, which was a 6M+ plate Stingray. If the boat will handle the extra weight .....??????????????.....there is enough grunt.
I had to put a full pod on my plate 5.5 CC when I went from a 75 Mariner to a 90 4ST Johnsu due to the weight increase.

The Suzi DF140 would be a very sweet option for your boat, especially only weighing 186kgs. Don't see too many used ones for sale though, how much did they have on the "02 130 Honda?

I have a 140 hp suzuki on my 6m sportfish and it gets along quite well i have had it wot at 33 knots, and i think it is a good match for the size of the boat but with yours being 5.5 and the extra weight of the honda like greg said it will definatly change the ride of your boat in my opinion it would be way to heavy. Try foxy's sand bag idea and i think you will have your answer pretty quick.
