Is there a brand I should use?

Hylomar is the best thing on fuel gaskets. In a tube not the pressure pack.
If you don't allready have a gasket, get some cork gasket material from your local car parts shop and make one. Has to be cork gasket. Hylomar on both side of the gasket and it will never leak.

P.S. Smelly

Never use silicon type products no matter how good the say they are. Will end up going soft and falling into the tank.

smelly hylomar is great as Ian said just remember you don't have to compress the cork fully to get a good seal 30 to 40% is all that you need

Stag is a product I've often used on fuel situations.
Works well as that's what it's designed for.

The loctite #3 is the same as aviation gasket cement and is recommended for the purpose

any of those, loctite is probably the easiest and most common to purchase.

If loctite # 3 is the one Im thinking of it can be hard to remove the sender in the future. Hylomar will not fully harden making it easier to remove and just clean off with acetone. I have used hylomar for years on aircraft including turbine engines and reckon its pretty good for what you want. I wouldn't loose to much sleep over it, loctite products are very good as well. As long as you have a good cork gasket and clean surfaces either will do the job for years to come.
