gday,
just a quick question on what peoples idears are when they pull
the pick in say waters around 50 to 100 m.
this is how the act plays out,

start motoring up on the ball, float starts to do its job
and a little more power is applied, float has gorn under
the water and the nose of the boat starts to be pulled around in circles as anchor
is well hooked into reef / bommie whatever. hmmmmmm
anchor is snagged.

questions.......
do i apply more power or simply give it full throttle ???
keep going in circles it will eventually let go ????
cut the rope ???
shorten the anchor rope on the bollard???

i read in an article a while ago that the shorter the anchor rope the better
the chance of the float working ...................

my answers ...................

have had this happen a fair few times lately in both rough swelly
conditions and glass outs. i have found that by paying out say another
20m of rope has woked every time and popped up straight away.
i run same amount of chain and same reef pick as the rest so i think
its all in the style of retrieval.

just my oppinion but the more anchor rope the bigger the angle becomes ????

interested to hear everybodys comments and anchor loss stories ;D
cheers dale
hope that question made sense.

almost forgot the main question.................

always pay out extra rope ...........

always tie off on the bollard with only a little bit of slack.........

I wouldn't go applying full throttle, could be dangerous. Keep motoring around in a circle with constant pressure against the anchor. If that doesn't work, try shortening up the rope. Failing that you need to go down a size in Anchor, you should be able to straighten a reef pick under power without too many dramas.
