G'day,

I have a Mustang 1500 half cabin. The boat is old and must have been in the sun for long period some time during it's life as the cabin fibreglass is pitted and a bit chalky and is beyond cutting and polishing. I was thinking of painting it to spruice it up a bit. Has anyone got any info or tips?

Cheers,

Cosmo,

I dont have anything to help you. but any info you get back would like to share with you as we are going through the same thing. We are looking at getting a part of the boat resprayed as it too is beyond cut and polish.

Cheers Aj

Thinking if you don't want to do it yourself.
Go to the local crash repairer, they can spray putty it, and then 2pak it should last ten years or more.

Doing a gel coat restore would be nice but lot's of work sanding and preping, and the end result may not be as nice as the 2 pak.

Have a look at the International brand of paint called "Perfection". It's what I'm going to use to repaint my 4.3 cuddy cab glass boat.

It's a marine 2-pak that you apply with a roller & "tip it" with a paint brush.

You can pick up an info pack with a DVD at Bias/Whitworths etc

Hire or borrow a air randam sander(6") sand with 80 grit, buy high build automotive spray filler/primer,spray boat ,spray black guide coat over the putty, sand with 600 wet/dry buy paint(auto 2 pak ok) spray boat ligthly first coat them more wetter on the 2nd and final coat.

Thanks for the info. Some of it sounds like a lot of work while other bits sound easy.

You could also spray it with flowcoat gloss. Thin flowcoat out for spraying with styene monomer. After giving it a good sand.
